Kay Hartung works with microscopic imagery, creating colonies of cellular shapes that migrate, flow, and multiply. Her process builds layer upon layer of biomorphic forms, suggesting growth, development, and movement. Hartung reveals the beauty of this mysterious world, inviting us to contemplate the impact these minute forms have on our lives, and the connections between art and science.
Hartung maintains a studio at ArtSpace Maynard and lives in Acton, MA. She has a BFA from Philadelphia College of Art and an MFA from Syracuse University. She taught for 20 years at Bradford College in the Creative Arts Department. She is represented by Fountain Street Fine Art and has been a recipient of grants from Somerville Arts Council, Malden Arts Council and the Ford Foundation. Kayʼs work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and she has created commissioned pieces for both private and corporate collections.
