Soosen Dunholter

Statement:

My Art speaks to the whimsical energy radiated by the world I inhabit and is driven by intuition, spontaneous serendipity, and delightful fun. Often juggling several bodies of work concurrently, one project regularly informs – or cross-pollinates – another.

When working with wax, I am attracted to the variety of techniques available with this medium as well as the distinctive look of the finished cold wax or encaustic piece. Because beeswax is impervious to moisture, it will not yellow or darken the imagery. This is paramount for me as many of the artworks I create utilize antique papers rescued from recycling centers, antique shops or found at local yard sales. These artifacts often contain the residue of our material culture, and ephemera like these are rapidly disappearing as our visual culture becomes intangible, transitory, and historic. It is my response to so much of our communication and visual culture now taking place in cyberspace.
